EUROPEAN QUALITY SCHEMES

The European Union recognizes and protects some agri-food products to promote their unique features, linked to their geographical origin and production traditions.

These products can receive a ‘geographical indication’ (GI) when they have a specific bond with the place where they are made. The GI recognition is a guarantee for the consumer and an added value that allows you to immediately identify the authenticity and specificity of the product.

Food products have the following denominations:

• 
  Protected designation of origin (PDO)
• 
  Protected geographical indication (PGI)
• 
  Traditional speciality guaranteed (TSG)

Among these, the PDO brand certifies the excellence of European Union agri-food production.

THE PDO BRAND

The PDO brand – Protected Designation of Origin is only attributed to products in which all production, processing and transformation stages are rigorously carried out in a defined geographical area, which, due to their distinctive characteristics and the unique combination of human and environmental factors, are the determining factor in achieving the product’s characteristics.
